May 9 - Arriving for check-in

Our first day working at the Grand Canyon was…cold and snowy; sunny with incredible vistas; wet and rainy; discovering the Hopi House where Susan will be working; a beautiful walk along the rim.

I’ll let the pictures tell the story.  We drove in from the South Entrance to cold, blustery winds and snow.  The Mule Barn – covered in snow.

Showed up first thing this morning for employee check-in. Yep, that's snow.  Just a covering but enough to make the move-in messy.

Here’s our cabin (and bikes) when the sun came out.

I brought all the “stuff” from the car and handed it to Susan to put in the cabin.  Once the car was unloaded, then we worked together to find drawers and hangers for everything.  There is plenty of room and we were able to find a place for everything!
We heard the train coming!  This is the view from our cabin. Grand Canyon Railroad runs north from Williams, AZ, arriving about 11:45 and leaving at 3:30.  One of my tours will be meeting the train and sharing a Grand Canyon experience.

After we got everything unloaded and put away, we took a stroll to see the Grand Canyon for the first time for this summer of 2017.  Our first views.  Could we, like the legendary Grand Canyon storyteller John Hance said, walk across the Canyon on the puffy clouds?  Looks that way.

Sitting on the rim enjoying the view.  What a place!

Orientation on Thursday; training starts on Friday.
